The City of Enoch Will Return From Heaven
The City of Enoch will return from heaven before the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Why do people have an interest in the City of Enoch? Read on-
Most people know about Enoch from one Bible verse. Today, there are a number of additional scriptures that speak further about Enoch, who he was, and where he went.
For example, we now have information about the City of Enoch - a city which Enoch was instructed to build under the divine guidance of Almighty God. The City of Enoch was taken up when Enoch was raptured from off the earth. The City of Enoch is destined to return to earth before the return of Jesus Christ.
Latter-day Saints probably have more information about Enoch than any other people. Why? Because the prophet Joseph Smith, Jr. was gifted and permitted to see these things.
If you don't believe in the prophetic claims of Joseph Smith Jr., then at least be aware of the scriptures and beliefs that Mormons have. You may find some parallels that will surprise you.
However, the teachings of Enoch have been around long enough for several misconceptions to have occurred among Latter-day Saints. These are detailed in the following scriptures.
As you read, keep in mind that everything Enoch is being shown in vision is future tense, not past.
Moses 7:62-64
62 And righteousness will I send down out of heaven; and truth will I send forth out of the earth, to bear testimony of mine Only Begotten; his resurrection from the dead; yea, and also the resurrection of all men; and righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, unto a place which I shall prepare, (your future city Enoch, I will help your people to build) an Holy City, that my people may gird up their loins, (they shall know of your city and be looking for its return) and be looking forth for the time of my coming; for there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be called Zion, a New Jerusalem.
63 And the Lord said unto Enoch: Then shalt thou and all thy city meet them there, (your future city Enoch) and we will receive them (those who have been looking and waiting) into our bosom, (your future city Enoch) and they shall see us; and we will fall upon their necks, and they shall fall upon our necks, and we will kiss each other;
64 And there shall be mine abode, (your future city Enoch) and it shall be Zion, which shall come forth out of all the creations which I have made; and for the space of a thousand years the earth shall rest.
So the city called New Jerusalem as referred to here, is the city which Enoch was going to build with the help of God. It would become God's abode as well. It would house God's tabernacle. It would come forth from all His creations. When it does, we will be received inside of it.
This information is meant to help us to "gird up our loins" and to be "looking forth" for the time of its coming. However if we interpret these verses as past tense (Enoch's city had already been built) and believe God is not showing Enoch his own future city, then we would interpret "that city" in the traditional way as referring to one in Independence, Missouri.
And if we did, we would not be girding up our loins (which means to be prepared), nor looking forth for its coming, but rather looking forth toward Salt Lake City instead, for the time when the brethren would give their permission to rebuild the city and temple again. But the Lord has already said we are not going back to Missouri.
The one perspective allows us to Look Upward, while the other requires us to look earth bound, before we can Look Upward.
To further substantiate the proper interpretation, please read the following scriptures:
Revelation 21:2
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Ether 13:3
3 And that it was the place of the New Jerusalem, which should come down out of heaven, and the holy sanctuary of the Lord.
